Genuine quality oriental rugs have always been in the top in the list of articles desired by people. Indeed, the beauty and exquisiteness of an oriental rug cannot be put to words. There are several countries in the eastern part of the world which produce genuine oriental rugs. These rugs could be hand-woven or can be produced through machine. Rugs can be produced in several forms and fabrics ranging from wool, cotton or silk. Some of the countries famous for producing some of the most beautiful woolen rugs in the world include Romania, Uzbekistan, Iran and Egypt.

Generally, most of the people are confused between oriental rugs and Persian rugs. Since both of these are famous for their beauty and durability, people often fail to distinguish between the two and often get fooled up by shopkeepers while purchasing one. It must be noted that though all Persian rugs are kind of oriental rugs. The vice-versa is not true i.e. not all Oriental rugs can be essentially called as Persian rugs.

Wool oriental rugs are produced by weaving them on a loom by hand. These looms are made up of wood. There are several larger looms available as well which are made up of metal and do not have any manufacturing defects. They are capable of producing some of the most beautiful rugs without any knots or any other defect. These looms are filled up with threads stitched in vertical form through which a rug can be woven easily. The intricate designs created on these woolen oriental rugs are created by tying loops around a pair of warps. Woolen oriental rugs are available in both variants i.e. machine-produced and hand-woven. Most of the people still prefer to go for hand-woven rugs as they are more intricately designed and have minimum or absolutely no knots in them, thus displaying a perfect design. These hand-woven rugs are generally very expensive but people do not mind paying such a price for these exclusive oriental rugs.

The choice of designs available in woolen oriental rugs is heavily influenced by the current trends in the market which keep changing from time to time. Another important factor which heavily influences the quality of these handmade rugs is the kind of wool used. Most of the people try to avoid purchasing a lemon in name of an oriental rug i.e. rugs made of dead wool. Dead wool is the wool taken from a dead sheep. It is a very rough to touch, lacks luster and is relatively inexpensive and very easily available. Rugs made out of this kind of wool do not last for long and gradually diminishes in their market value.

On the other hand, rugs made out of premium quality wool appreciate in quality with time as it is used more and are considered priceless by rug-manufacturers. The quality of wool can be determined by its weight as well. The rule of the 'heavier, the better' can be implemented here to the best.
